This week is Walk to School week, which means leave the car at home and put your running shoes on. Think before you dial that number for the taxi service and instead get out of bed a little earlier and take a stroll into school
Exercise is important for both children and adults because it releases positive endorphins that help both physical and mental health. It can help with increasing motivation and can boost your morale, kicking your day off to a positive start
By taking a walk to school, it gives you time to wake up properly and think about the day ahead. It helps people with anxiety to prepare and remind themselves of what the plan is for the day. Research has shown that people who walk to work are less stressed and more focused at work then people who get public transport or drive
By getting the exercise from walking, means that you can afford to give the gym a miss after work so that you have more time to do what you want to. It might be spending time with your family and friends or having some time to unwind and relax after a long day at work
Its important to get a great nights sleep and to get up nice and early so you have plenty of time in the morning to get dressed and washed without rushing around and getting stressed out. If you walk to school then it will force you to get up earlier so make sure that you go to bed at a sensible hour as sleep is extremely important for your mind and body
It’s a great way to save money, especially with the current climate. Think of how much it costs to take a taxi to work or the price of petrol currently. Instead spend that extra cash on something that you have a genuine interest in or maybe even a pair of brand new trainers so you look extra fly on your way to work
If you don’t want to walk to school, there are other methods to get to school while still getting exercise. You can cycle, take a scooter or even a unicycle. However you decide to get to school, be active, have fun and get outside!
